Izabela Pluta was born in Warsaw, Poland, and migrated to Australia in 1987. She completed her undergraduate studies in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle and has an MFA from the College of Fine Art, University of New South Wales in Sydney. Pluta’s practice is rooted in photographic ideas central to the experience of place, the effects of time and the construction of reality. She utilises diverse forms of imagery and forms that intersect with each other in their tradition, function and materiality. Pluta’s recent works have examined the various ways that place is manifested or experienced, comprising photographs, found ephemera and photomurals to explore her interest in serendipitous encounters, the effects of time and how the photographic image operates as a vehicle for witnessing various states of ruin.
